Directing clients to design, integrate and implement operational excellence
WHY EDJG Consulting?
Edward J. Gubeno III, MBA is the founder of EDJG and has spent the last 20+ years working for/with companies such as Procter & Gamble, Saint-Gobain, L’Oreal, SC Johnson, Wrigley, YKK, Green-Tokai, Plastek, Bemis, Ecolab and countless other global organizations internally and as a consultant focusing specifically on operational excellence and manufacturing efficiencies. With experience in 200+ manufacturing facilities and within varying industries his experience has taught him time and again that over complicated improvement programs either just don’t stick or they are tenuous. Most often the implementation process is long and tedious. The end result can be horrific…another “flavor of the month” came and went with unsustainable cost savings, increased stress and increased workload for your workforce. Finally, decreased moral and increased tension between leadership and employees ultimately turns the culture into a ticking time bomb.
Edward has a Master of Business Administration in organizational development and change management. He is an avid coach, counselor and mentor to all levels of the organization and has dedicated his career to improving the lives of our great nations’ workforce. His accomplishments are only surpassed by the lives he has touched.

WHY TWI?
Is your organization struggling with getting an operational excellence program off the ground? Is your team struggling to come up with continuous improvement efforts? Do you have high turnover and find it difficult to keep up with the training? Would you like to remain flexible in the market place and maintain organizational agility? Are your front-line leaders in need of some foundational leadership skills? If you answer YES to any of these, you’re in luck! TWI (Training Within Industry) is so simple that it will single handedly transform your business. This will also lay the foundation for any future introduction to an Operational Excellence system installation. Your company deserves the opportunity to remain relative in today’s market, your team deserves the best training available and your bottom line depends on both!
We have all heard of K.I.S.S. = Keep It Simple…, well, TWI is the foundation to any OPEX (Operational Excellence) program and this is as simple as it gets. We all started our introduction to speech, language and reading (the foundation of knowledge) by learning the alphabet! TWI is the alphabet or building blocks needed for any OPEX program.

TWI (Training Within Industry)
This is the foundation for any Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement or Operational Excellence system. Created by the United States Department of War, running from 1940 to 1945, the purpose was to provide consulting services to war-related industries whose personnel were being drafted into the US Army at the same time the War Department was issuing orders for additional material. It was apparent that the shortage of trained and skilled personnel at precisely the time they were needed most would impose a hardship on those industries, and that only improved methods of job training would address the shortfall.
The consultants that were trained in TWI methodologies (3 modules listed below) were quickly discarded by the US companies after the war as the drafted personnel had returned home and back to work. Japan seized the opportunity to bring these consultants to Japan to aid in the rebuild… Toyota was one company that took the support and ran with it. Today this foundation can be seen in systems such as TPM (Toyota Plant Management or Total Productive Maintenance), Lean-Six Sigma and many other Operational Excellence programs/systems.
Module 1
(Job Instruction) Train The Trainer
This “hands-on” 10 hour course is designed to develop front-line leadership in their training technique, utilized when onboarding new employees, cross-training current employees and aids your organization in developing a manageable system to develop and retain skill within your team. Skill based training moves your organization from a subjective approach to development, assessment and retention to an objective approach, improving employee confidence and trust in leadership.
Module 2
(Job Relations) Leadership Development / Relationship Building
This “hands-on” 10 hour course is designed to develop front-line leaderships’ ability to develop and sustain relationships with their team. The focus is on behaviors and daily interactions with their team members. Everything from the approach, tone of voice and words chosen. Many front line leaders have been deprived of this specific growth in their journey towards upper management and typically have been thrusted into a new role without the basic skills necessary to form and sustain meaningful, trusting relationships with their team. This module can also be supported by post training coaching and mentoring by EDJG Consulting.
Module 3
(Job Methods) Continuous Improvement Mindset
This “hands-on” 10 hour course is designed to develop front-line leaders and all employees to objectively evaluate the efficiency of their jobs and to methodically evaluate and suggest improvements. The basic tools learned in this course are the foundation for any SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Dyes) or Start-Up/Change-over time reduction methodology. This is also highly utilized in Business Process Improvement methods.

“Edwards character speaks for itself. His vision for success will propel an organization toward continuing to meet and exceed key indicators and benchmarks. Edward is driven to lead people by promoting and strengthening their ability to drive objectives and results. Edward’s passion for people and business strategy is unmatched. He truly understands what mentorship and partnership does for a company’s principals and ideals. I would be remiss not to mention the development he provided to a class of mentees in which he established while at XLC. I’m a proud graduate of that mentor program and attribute a ton of my business savvy through his leadership. That leadership has enabled me to successfully provide excellence post college. ”
